The mysterious mountain-wonderland around Tzaneen
The area around Tzaneen, Haenertsburg and Duiwelskloof is a mysterious wonderland of crystal clear mountain air, craggy peaks, tumbling waterfalls, tranquil lakes and magnificent indigenous forests. It is also an attractive subtropical paradise where everything grows in abundance – nuts, avocados and other vegetables, fruits (especially citrus fruits, mangoes, bananas and litchis), coffee, tea and cotton.
Cruising around you will come across extensive tea plantations, large forests with timber plantations of pine and blue gum, and panoramic vistas on the surrounding Wolkberg Mountains.
More attractions include the Modjadji Nature Reserve (containing the largest natural concentration of a single cycad species in the world - Encephalartos transvenosus), the largest Baobab tree in the world (with a pub inside the tree), a number of waterfalls, picturesque villages, and archaeological sites.
